1. When are classes held?Please refer to our Class Time page for the most up to date class times. Classes for all belt levels are held two evenings during the week at two different locations. For interested members of all belt levels, additional workouts are offered at alternative training sites. 2. Who teaches the classes?All classes at the Traditional Martial Arts Institute are taught by Grand Master Harrell 7th Dan Black Belt or Master Nicola Harrell, 4th Dan Black Belt. Intermediate level black belts (2nd & 3rd Dan) occasionally assist with targeted training drills. 3. What will I learn?A typical class begins with some warm-up exercises and stretching. Next the class practices basic kicks and footwork, complemented by punches and blocks. Poomsae, which are memorized forms consisting of series of basic moves. Occasionally self-defence techniques are included. In the latter half of class we often practice kicking of paddles and partner drills with combination kicks. Some classes the emphasis is on sparring to prepare members for tournament competition. 4. When can I join the class?We have an open enrolment policy. You may join at any time. 5. Can I wear my old uniform in class?Only uniforms with the Institute’s logo are allowed to be worn in class. All your martial arts needs are available through us at a reasonable cost. Our policy: "If you did not buy it here, you do not wear it here." 6. What are my opportunities to compete?We are invited to participate in Tournament throughout the EU on a regular basis. This is a good opportunity for members of the Institute to enter in poomsae and/or sparring competition. Those not interested in competing often volunteer their services in support roles. During the summer tournaments throughout the year are also good opportunities to get experience in competition. 7. What else does the Traditional Martial Arts Institute do?The Traditional Martial Arts Institute performs demonstrations in local Festivals in the area throughout the year, organise special training seminars on topics such as sparring strategies, and refereeing. And we stage an End of The Year Party that has proven to a variety of Martial and cultural activities. 8.
